Victory Medal given to Thomas Lewis JONES, born Llanrhaeadr Ym Monchant in 1882. He received burns at Gallipoli and died 24th October 1916. He was officialy buried at Ninia War Cemetery (200km south of Cairo) but was moved and re-interred at Cairo in 1960. We also learnt that on 19th October 1900 he ran away to join the navy, but he was an indentured apprentice – this was discovered 1 month later and he was returned to Oswestry under arrest from Davenport. His brother was Robert Owen JONES.
