John A. Williams – A customer sent us the below information:
I am now 84 & would like to convey some details of my association with the town.
My grandmother Lily Williams lived at Oak Cottage, Oak St & is buried in the local cemetery. She had three sons & two daughters.
Next door to her abode lived her son Herbert who had a Painting & Decorating business & a PAINT manufacturing factory in the town. His first wife died & he married Margaret Morris from Whittington. His first wife produced a son named Kenneth who fought in Arnhem ( amongst other places) during WW2. At some time, he was the editor of the Oswestry & Border Times in offices opposite the station. He married Violet & they lived in Stewart Rd & had,I believe three children with whom I would like to contact.
My grandmother, father, Walter George & others of the Williams family lay at rest in the local cemetery.
With my mother & brother Grahame we spent many months at Oak Cottage during WW2 as our home in Petts Wood, Kent was in ‘bomb alley’.
I briefly attended Oswestry School as an 8 yr.old. Special permission was given because of the war & because my cousin Ken was an OB.
